RBI Approves FPI 1729 Capital's Stake in Suryoday SFB
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has given its approval after the fact to a foreign investor called 1729 Capital to buy a big part (7.14%) of a small bank called Suryoday.
This kind of approval is given when something has already happened.
Before, 1729 Capital and its friends couldn't vote for more than 5% of the bank's decisions, but now that rule is gone.
The bank's biggest owners include some important people and groups.
The RBI says 1729 Capital must follow all the rules when they own this part of the bank.
RBI granted post facto approval to 1729 Capital for acquiring 7.14% stake in Suryoday Small Finance Bank (SSFB).
Voting rights restriction for 1729 Capital and its associates in SSFB has been removed, previously limited to less than 5%.
Approval is subject to compliance with Banking Regulation Act, 1949, FEMA, 1999, SEBI Regulations, and other guidelines.
As of September 2025, the Promoter and Promoter Group held 22.44% stake in SSFB.
Other major shareholders include Baskar Babu R (5.18%), Sunaina Pai Ocalan (4.18%), Sheela Pai Cole (4.18%), PS Jagdish (3.32%), and P Surendra Pai (2.28%).
