Tata Power to build ₹6,600-cr Odisha wafer plant
Tata Power is starting to build a big new factory in Odisha to make parts for solar panels.
This factory will cost ₹6,600 crore and will be built in two parts, each making 5 GW of solar wafers and ingots.
The first part will be ready by January 2028, and the second part will follow six months later.
Tata Power chose Odisha because it offers good incentives, lower power costs, and land was already available.
Besides this, Tata Power is also looking at three states—Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Gujarat—to set up nuclear power plants.
They are testing the land and expect to start these projects in six to eight months, depending on government rules.
Tata Power already has a big solar panel factory that is working at full capacity and made a lot of solar panels in the last quarter.
Tata Power to start construction of a ₹6,600-crore wafer and ingot manufacturing plant in Odisha in October 2026.
The project will be implemented in two phases of 5 GW each, with Phase 1 expected to be operational by January 2028.
Odisha was chosen over Andhra Pradesh due to better incentives, lower power costs, and ready availability of land in Gopalpur SEZ.
Tata Power is also advancing plans to enter the nuclear power sector, with land identification in Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Gujarat.
The company is evaluating multiple reactor configurations, including 220-MW Bharat Small Reactors and 700-MW reactors, depending on government policy.
