Stuart Barnes: Cricket Isn't Gym-Based Sport, Warns Against Over-Coaching

Some people who help athletes practice are called coaches.

A well-known sports person named Stuart Barnes talked about how grown-up cricketers are taught.

He thinks coaches sometimes teach too many tiny details.

That is called over-coaching.

Barnes said cricket is not a sport you do in a gym.

He said players do not need to think about every little body part while they are playing.

For example, a bowler should not worry about where their foot, knee, elbow and hip are at the end of their run-up.

He thinks that kind of thinking can be dangerous for the player.

He also said these details can be helpful sometimes.

But he believes players need to be mature enough to understand them.
