Navi Mumbai APMC Resumes Work Amid Sack Weight Dispute

Workers and traders at a large produce market in Navi Mumbai disagreed about how heavy sacks should be.

The workers said sacks should weigh no more than 50 kilograms.

Traders said some fruits and vegetables can become slightly heavier after packing.

The disagreement temporarily stopped work at the market.

Workers also held a road blockade.

After a joint meeting, they agreed to handle sacks weighing up to 52 kilograms for now.

This allowed the market to reopen and clear produce already waiting there.

Traders were told not to order sacks heavier than 50 kilograms.

Government officials and the groups will discuss the final rule on Tuesday.
