India's Tech Hiring Hits 6-Year Low
The number of tech jobs in India is at a six-year low.
In January 2026, there were 103,000 job openings, which is 24% fewer than the same time last year.
This is the second-lowest number of tech jobs in six years.
The tech sector, which used to be the biggest employer, has seen a big drop in job openings since late 2022.
Experts say this is because of economic worries, automation, and companies focusing on being more efficient.
Some types of tech jobs, like entry-level and senior positions, have seen even bigger drops.
However, global capability centers (GCCs) are hiring more people and are expected to keep growing.
Tech job openings in India at 103,000 in January 2026, down 24% from January 2025.
Current openings are the second lowest in six years, down 60% from the peak in January 2022.
Tech sector no longer the majority contributor to total active jobs, with non-tech sectors leading for over three years.
Entry-level openings down 18%, mid-senior openings down 12%, and senior openings down 22% from a year ago.
GCCs' demand for tech talent has grown by 13% compared to December 2025, accounting for 16% of total demand.
