CAG Forms Panel to Address Issues in Centrally Sponsored Schemes
The CAG, which checks government spending, has created a special group to look at how money is managed for programs that are sponsored by the central government but run by states.
These programs are called Centrally Sponsored Schemes.
The group will focus on making sure the way these schemes are planned, tracked, and paid for is better.
They won't look at how well the programs actually help people.
This is happening because government finance officials met and decided improvements were needed.
The group includes people from the CAG, state finance leaders, and other government departments.
They hope to make government money for these programs more clear and organized.
The government spends a lot of money on these schemes, with billions allocated in the recent budget.
CAG has formed a committee to identify and address issues within Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS).
The committee's mandate is to strengthen the budgeting, accounting, and payment framework of CSS, not their delivery.
The initiative stems from the Second State Finance Secretaries Conference held on September 19.
The committee includes senior officials from CAG, state finance secretaries, and relevant department officials.
The Union Budget 2025-26 allocated Rs 5.41 lakh crore for CSS, representing 8 paise of every government spending rupee.
