Tezpur University Protests Continue for VC Removal
Students and staff at Tezpur University in Assam have been protesting for 79 days against their Vice Chancellor, Shambhu Nath Singh.
They accuse him of corruption and other wrongdoings and want him removed.
The Ministry of Education sent a team to talk to the protesters.
After a long discussion, the team gave a written promise that the Vice Chancellor will not run the university until an investigation is completed.
However, the protesters say they will keep protesting until they get an official letter from the central government confirming the Vice Chancellor's removal.
The university has been closed, and all exams have been cancelled since November 29.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has criticized the protests and prefers dialogue to resolve the issues.
He has urged the Centre to appoint a Pro-VC pending an impartial inquiry into the current VC's conduct.
