Odisha Launches Kharif Paddy Procurement Season
In Odisha, a minister named Krushna Chandra Patra started the season for buying paddy from farmers.
He opened special places called mandis in Nuapada district.
The government wants to buy 100 lakh metric tonnes of paddy this year, which is more than last year.
Farmers will get a fixed price for their paddy, and the government will pay them quickly.
The minister also said they will stop a practice where some weight is taken off because of moisture.
There will be more storage for the paddy too.
The minister had lunch with farmers to show he cares about them.
Meanwhile, in Krishna District, an MLA named Yarlagadda Venkat Rao visited farmers who were drying their paddy due to high moisture content.
The farmers asked the MLA to request the government to relax the moisture percentage norms, as strict limits were causing delays in procurement.
The MLA promised to take up the issue with higher officials to find a solution.
