8th Pay Commission Updates Boost Hopes for 1.1 Crore Employees
The 8th Pay Commission is a group that decides how much people who work for the government should get paid.
It started in November 2025 and is halfway through its job by early August 2026.
The commission is talking to many groups, like workers, retirees and government offices, to hear their ideas.
It will finish its work in May or June 2027.
Recent notices say it will meet in cities like Delhi, Chennai, Puducherry and Chandigarh to collect more opinions.
Commission has completed nine months of its 18‑month term, entering its second half by early August 2026.
Chaired by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, it is intensifying consultations with employee associations, pensioners and government bodies across India.
The finance ministry said the commission is not required to report progress to the Centre during deliberations.
Final recommendations are expected in May‑June 2027, following consultations in Delhi, Chennai, Puducherry and Chandigarh.
Recent website notices announced regional consultations (Chandigarh, Puducherry, Chennai) and extended the memorandum submission deadline to June 15, 2026.
