Khagaria-Purnea Highway Upgrade to Boost Bihar's Economy
The government is making a big road called the Khagaria-Purnea highway wider so that trucks can carry bananas and makhana (a type of puffed rice) faster and easier.
Right now, the roads get crowded and sometimes flood, which makes it hard for farmers to get their crops to market on time.
The new, wider road will help bananas stay fresh and make it easier for people to travel between cities.
It will also help connect Bihar to other states like West Bengal and Jharkhand.
This project will cost a lot of money, but it will help farmers and make the area stronger against floods.
The Khagaria–Purnea section of NH-31 and NH-231 is being upgraded to a four-lane highway at a cost of Rs 3936.05 crore.
The project aims to boost Bihar's banana and makhana economy by improving connectivity and reducing travel time.
Current travel time of 3.5 to 4 hours is expected to reduce to 1.5 to 2 hours after the upgrade.
The upgraded highway will incorporate flood-resistant engineering to enhance resilience against seasonal flooding.
The project will strengthen connectivity to key economic, social, and logistics hubs, including PM Gati Shakti Economic Nodes and logistics nodes.
