The Odyssey IMAX Format Confusion Worldwide
The Odyssey is a new movie directed by Christopher Nolan.
It was filmed using special IMAX cameras that make the picture very clear and colorful.
But there's a problem: only a few movie theaters in the world can show it in the best way, using a special kind of film called 70mm.
Most places, including India, can only show it digitally, which isn't as good.
People are talking a lot about this because they want to see the movie the way Nolan intended.
In India, the biggest IMAX screen is in Mumbai, but it's digital, not the special film kind.
There's only one place in India with the special film projector, but it only shows nature and space movies, not The Odyssey.
The Odyssey was shot entirely on IMAX cameras, creating format viewing discussions.
IMAX 15/70 uses 70mm film for sharper images and richer colors, but few theaters support it.
Only a few dozen theaters worldwide can project true 70mm IMAX, with none in Asia, Africa, or South America showing The Odyssey in this format.
India has digital IMAX screens, with the largest at Miraj Cinemas in Mumbai, but no commercial theaters support 70mm IMAX.
Gujarat Science City in Ahmedabad has a 70mm IMAX projector but only shows documentaries.
