Telangana to Challenge Almatti Dam Height, Focuses on Water Rights
The Telangana government is going to court because they are worried that a neighboring state, Karnataka, wants to make a dam bigger.
Telangana believes this could cause problems with how water is shared.
The government has hired a lawyer and will file a special appeal to the Supreme Court to stop this.
They are also working on other water projects in their state.
The government is also planning to create local groups to help manage and maintain local water resources like tanks and canals, to ensure they function well.
Telangana will file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court against Karnataka.
The petition is in response to Karnataka's plan to raise the Almatti dam height.
C.S. Vaidyanathan is representing Telangana in court.
The government is also expediting work on the Tummidihatti barrage.
Water user associations (WUAs) will be formed to manage local irrigation.
