US Expat Numbers Rise Sharply in Early 2025
More and more Americans are choosing to live in other countries.
Last year, almost 5,000 people left the US to live somewhere else, and this number is expected to stay high this year.
People are leaving because things are getting expensive, there is uncertainty about the future, and they want more freedom.
Many are moving to Europe, especially Greece, because of the quality of life, good healthcare, and the opportunity to buy property through programs like the Golden Visa.
US expat numbers are forecast to reach nearly 5,000 by the end of 2025, the highest since 2020.
In 2024, approximately 4,819 US citizens chose to expatriate, a 47.8% annual increase.
The first quarter of 2025 saw a 102.4% rise in US expats compared to the final quarter of 2024.
An estimated 1,285 US citizens became expatriates in the first three months of 2025 alone.
Factors driving this trend include the rising cost of living, political uncertainty, and a desire for greater personal freedoms.
