Court Grants Custody in India Gate Protest Case
A court in Delhi decided to give three days of police custody to three students who were part of a protest at India Gate.
The police wanted to keep them for 10 days but the court said no.
The students are accused of shouting anti-national slogans and being connected to a banned group.
The police also want to find out more about the protest, like who paid for it and where they got pepper spray.
A fourth student was sent to judicial custody.
The police have arrested 23 students in total.
The protest was about clean air and was organized by different student groups.
The police also found posts on Instagram that they say show the students support Naxalites, a group that opposes the government.
The students say they did not do anything wrong and that the police are not being fair.
Court granted 3-day police custody to three students involved in India Gate protest, judicial custody to others.
Police sought 10-day remand, alleging anti-national slogans and links to banned Radical Students Union (RSU).
Investigation grounds include uncovering conspiracy via WhatsApp, identifying funding sources, tracing pepper spray origin, and investigating Hyderabad connections.
Two FIRs registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following clashes with police.
Police cited Instagram posts to allege “Naxal links” and support for Maoist commander Madvi Hidma.
