Telangana High Court: Free RTI for BPL Individuals Affirmed
The High Court in Telangana said that people who are very poor (BPL) can get information for free under a law called the RTI Act.
This happened because a student wanted information about a housing program, but was asked to pay a fee.
The court said the government can't charge BPL people for information because the law says they shouldn't have to pay.
This helps poor people get important information.
Telangana High Court affirmed free access to information under RTI Act for BPL individuals.
The ruling stemmed from a petition filed by law student Gadipally Ganesh.
Ganesh sought information on Indiramma Indlu housing scheme beneficiaries.
He was initially charged printing fees for the information.
The court referenced a lack of exemption for BPL applicants in GO 454.
