Maharashtra FDA to Deploy Milk Scanners to Curb Adulteration
The Maharashtra government is getting 50 new milk-testing machines.
These machines will be able to quickly check if milk is safe to drink by testing things like fat and protein levels.
They can also find out if anything bad has been added to the milk, like chemicals.
The machines will be used at places where milk enters cities, as well as at locations where past issues were found.
The aim is to stop people from adding harmful substances to milk.
This new process means officials can find issues more quickly, before the milk spoils.
In addition to the handheld scanners, the government is also buying advanced machines for its lab for more detailed tests.
Maharashtra FDA will deploy 50 portable milk scanners by August 2025 to combat adulteration.
The scanners will enable on-site testing of milk quality, addressing delays and spoilage risks.
Each scanner can assess 16 parameters, including fat content and detection of adulterants.
FDA officials will use the scanners at city entry points and areas with prior adulteration incidents.
The FDA will also acquire Milkoscan machines for detailed laboratory milk analysis.
