NGT Addresses Environmental Issues in 2025
In 2025, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) dealt with many important environmental problems.
One big issue was the high levels of faecal coliform in the water during the Mahakumbh festival in Prayagraj.
The NGT asked the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board about these findings.
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) first said the water was not safe for bathing, but later reported that it was safe after some statistical analysis.
The NGT also ordered the Delhi government to clean 24 drains in the city.
Other issues included a decrease in forest cover in Assam, the impact of artificial light at night, and illegal sand mining in the Yamuna river bed.
The NGT directed various authorities to take action on these issues to protect the environment.
NGT addressed high faecal coliform levels in Mahakumbh water, initially deemed unsafe but later reported fit for bathing.
Tribunal directed Delhi government to complete desilting works of 24 drains.
NGT sought responses on various environmental issues, including forest cover decline in Assam and illegal sand mining.
Delhi Jal Board assured clean potable water supply to Janakpuri residents after contamination findings.
NGT directed authorities to frame guidelines for plywood industries and prevent indiscriminate concretisation of roadsides.
