GST Council Considers Tax Cuts, Simplification of Tax Structure
The government is looking at changing the GST tax system to make things easier and cheaper.
They are considering reducing the number of tax rates to just two: 5% and 18%.
This could mean lower prices for many everyday items like food, medicines, and stationery.
Some items, like luxury goods, may still have a high tax.
The changes aim to help businesses, especially small ones, and hopefully boost the economy, potentially giving a "Diwali gift" to the people.
GST Council met to discuss tax simplification and rate cuts.
Proposals include a two-slab GST structure of 5% and 18%.
Many goods may shift to lower tax brackets, while luxury items stay high.
Faster refunds and simpler registration are planned for businesses.
The meeting follows PM Modi's hint of major GST reforms.
