Cauvery Panel Recommends 9,000-Cusec Daily Release To Tamil Nadu
Karnataka and Tamil Nadu share water from the Cauvery river.
A committee met in New Delhi to decide how much water Karnataka should release.
It recommended that Karnataka provide 9,000 cusecs every day for 15 days.
The water will be measured at Biligundlu, near the interstate border.
Karnataka said its reservoirs were receiving much less water than usual.
It also said that keeping up larger releases would be difficult.
The committee still recommended the 9,000-cusec flow.
The larger water-sharing dispute is also being considered by the Supreme Court.
The Cauvery Water Regulation Committee recommended Karnataka release 9,000 cusecs daily to Tamil Nadu for 15 days.
Karnataka must maintain the flow at Biligundlu from 8 a.m. on August 25.
The recommended release would amount to about 11.66 TMC during the period.
Karnataka said reservoir inflows were 49.18% below the 30-year average.
The Cauvery water-sharing dispute remains pending before the Supreme Court.
