Allahabad HC Criticizes UP Police Practices
The Allahabad High Court scolded the Uttar Pradesh Police for shooting people they accused of crimes in the legs and then saying it was a gunfight.
The court also expressed displeasure over the police not having CCTV footage from a police station in Lucknow.
The judge said only courts can punish people, not the police.
He also said the police should respect the judiciary and not try to influence judges.
The police promised to follow the rules better.
The court is worried that the police might be doing this to impress their bosses or to get attention.
The court also ordered the principal secretary (home) of the Uttar Pradesh government to file a personal affidavit and provide an explanation regarding the CCTV footage.
The next hearing in the case will be held on February 18.
