AAP Reports Sharp Donation Drop as Regional Parties Disclose
The Aam Aadmi Party told the Election Commission that it received Rs 12.10 crore in donations during 2025-26.
This was much less than the Rs 38.10 crore it reported the year before.
Two donors, Prudent Electoral Trust and Trident Limited, gave Rs 5 crore each.
Trident was founded by Rajinder Gupta, who later left the Aam Aadmi Party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Other regional parties also reported changes in their donations.
The Telugu Desam Party and YSR Congress Party both reported lower totals than the previous year.
The Biju Janata Dal reported no donation above Rs 20,000.
Parties must name donors whose yearly contributions exceed Rs 20,000.
These filings show reported contributions, not all the money a party may receive.
The Aam Aadmi Party reported Rs 12.10 crore in contributions for 2025-26, a 68 percent decline from the previous year.
Prudent Electoral Trust and Trident Limited each donated Rs 5 crore, together accounting for nearly 83 percent of the AAP's reported contributions.
Trident's donation was dated January 9, 2026, while its founder Rajinder Gupta later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in April.
The Telugu Desam Party reported Rs 58.25 crore, the YSR Congress Party Rs 24.31 crore, and the Biju Janata Dal no contributions above Rs 20,000.
Political parties must identify donors contributing more than Rs 20,000, but contribution reports do not represent total annual income.
