Allahabad High Court Orders to Speed Up Prisoner Release After Bail
Imagine someone gets permission to leave jail, like a get-out-of-school pass.
But sometimes, it takes a very long time for the paper saying they can leave to actually reach the jail.
This happens because the people who give the permission (the judges) don't always know exactly which jail to send the paper to.
Also, sometimes the verification of who promises to take care of them (like a parent signing a permission slip) is slow.
The court has now said that lawyers must write down the specific jail name on the permission slip.
They also want computer systems to talk to each other faster so the 'go home' order gets sent right away.
And they want to make sure the people who promise to help them are checked quickly.
This is all to make sure no one stays in jail longer than they need to after they've been given permission to leave.
Allahabad High Court issued five directions on November 4 to expedite prisoner release post-bail.
Advocates are now required to include specific jail details in bail applications.
The court seeks direct electronic access to the e-prison portal for faster transmission of bail orders.
Electronic verification of sureties is to be established in district courts to avoid delays.
Prison authorities are directed to release inmates immediately upon receiving electronic release orders via the Bail Order Management System.

Procedural Hurdles
Proposed Solutions
Information Sharing for Bail Orders
Procedural Hurdles
Bail orders are sometimes delayed because bail application lacks specific jail details, making it difficult for the registrar to directly send the order to the prisoner.
Proposed Solutions
Advocates must now include jail details in bail applications, and the reporting section will not process applications without this information after December 1, 2025.
Electronic Verification of Sureties
Procedural Hurdles
Prisoners sometimes remain incarcerated due to delays in verifying sureties even after being granted bail.
Proposed Solutions
The court has directed the additional chief secretary to ensure electronic verification of sureties is established in district courts.
Direct Access to E-prison Portal
Procedural Hurdles
The bail and criminal appeal sections lack direct access to the e-prison portal, requiring bail orders to be sent via email, which can cause delays and interference.
Proposed Solutions
The central project coordinator must liaise with the NIC to grant dedicated ID access to the e-prison portal for concerned criminal sections.
