RBI Dividend Falls Short of Estimates, but Still a Record
The RBI, India's central bank, is giving the government a large sum of money, a record ₹2.69 lakh crore.
This is good news, but some experts in the market expected an even bigger amount.
The main reason the payout wasn't as large as predicted was because the RBI increased its financial safety net (contingency buffer).
Despite the slightly smaller dividend, the government still gets a lot more money than last year, helping with spending and the budget.
Experts believe this will give the government some extra financial room and that interest rate cuts could continue.
RBI to transfer ₹2.69 lakh crore to the government, a record dividend.
The dividend was lower than market estimates due to a higher contingency buffer.
RBI increased its contingency risk buffer to 7.5% from 6%.
Economists view the payout as a fiscal cushion for the government.
Rate cuts are still expected despite the smaller dividend.
