India Becomes Key Hub for AI Deployment Engineering Talent
Forward Deployed Engineers help companies build and use AI systems for specific customers.
They work with customer data and technology, not just with code.
Companies around the world are looking for many more of these engineers than are currently available.
India may become an important place for finding them because it has a large technology workforce.
It also has many global capability centres and engineers familiar with business industries.
Bengaluru is currently India’s biggest hiring centre for these roles, followed by Hyderabad and the NCR.
High demand is pushing FDE salaries above normal engineering pay.
However, the report warns that many advertised jobs may not be genuine FDE positions.
India has about 900 experienced Forward Deployed Engineers against an estimated 4,650 roles by 2027.
Globally, roughly 8,900 experienced FDEs face more than 33,000 open and announced positions.
FDEs combine software engineering, industry knowledge and client-facing skills to deploy AI systems.
India’s technology workforce, IT services sector and more than 2,100 global capability centres support its talent advantage.
FDE salaries are estimated at 30-60% above regular engineering bands, although many job postings may represent relabelled implementation roles.
