German Smart Toilet Seat Detects Atrial Fibrillation
A German company made a toilet seat that can check your heart while you sit.
It has tiny sensors that record your heart’s rhythm for about 30 seconds.
The data goes to a phone app that looks for irregular heartbeats.
Scientists tested it against a regular hospital test and found it works almost as well.
They think it could help people find heart problems early without needing a special device.
German firm Hamberger Medical created the HARO EKG-seat, a toilet seat with built‑in 6‑lead EKG sensors.
The seat records a 30‑second heart rhythm while sitting and sends data to a smartphone app for arrhythmia analysis.
A study comparing the seat to a standard 12‑lead EKG found high agreement, though it has not yet been peer‑reviewed.
Researchers say the device enables frequent, unobtrusive heart monitoring during a routine activity.
Cardiac specialist Dr Paari Dominic highlighted that early AFib detection can improve patient outcomes.
