Karnataka Bandh Peaceful; Police Detain Pro-Kannada Leader Vatal Nagaraj

Two states in India share a big river called the Cauvery.

The states are Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, and the river gives water to farmers in both places.

A committee told Karnataka to send a lot of water, 12,000 cusecs, to Tamil Nadu for 15 days.

Many people in Karnataka were upset because their own state has very little water this year.

A leader named Vatal Nagaraj asked everyone to stop working for one day to show they were unhappy.

This is called a bandh, which is like a peaceful shutdown.

But not many people joined, and schools, offices, shops and buses stayed open.

Police took the leader into their custody to keep things calm.

The Chief Minister thanked groups that did not join the protest and said he would look at their requests.
