Former Chandigarh Slum Colony Set to Become City Forest

A former slum area in Chandigarh is being turned into a city forest.

The area was once called Colony No.

4.

Officials removed the buildings in May 2022.

After that, the land was damaged, with waste, hard soil, poor drainage and little vegetation.

Workers have cleaned and repaired the land and planted trees.

Two water bodies were also made for rainwater and wildlife.

Visitors may later use elevated trails, bird-watching platforms and nature-learning spaces.

The forest is expected to open by June 2027 if the plans stay on schedule.
