Venugopal urges Amit Shah statement on police action against students
A leader from the opposition party in India wrote a letter to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
He wants the Speaker to make the Home Minister, Amit Shah, speak in Parliament.
This is because police were very rough with students who were protesting in Delhi.
The students were upset about exam paper leaks.
The leader says the police used strong weapons called pellet guns against young people.
He says the Home Minister is in charge of the Delhi Police, so he must explain what happened.
The rules of the country say ministers have to answer to Parliament.
Right now, both sides are stuck and can't agree in Parliament.
Many lawmakers are upset and ordinary work has been noisy and hard to finish.
Congress MP K C Venugopal wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urging him to demand a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah on police action against protesting students.
Venugopal alleged police brutality and the disproportionate use of force, including pellet guns, against students and youth in Delhi.
He argued that since Delhi Police functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the ultimate responsibility rests with Amit Shah.
Venugopal cited Articles 75(3) and 77 of the Constitution to press for the Home Minister's presence in the House.
