Diwali-eve Celebrations Feature Ganga Ghats Replica and Record Footfall
Imagine a big party on the day before Diwali at Central Park!
The organizers made it look like the famous riverbanks of Benaras, complete with a pretend river and little lamps.
There was a giant statue of Goddess Mahalaxmi.
People enjoyed watching colorful fireworks and a special dance show.
The dancers dressed up as gods and goddesses, and one dancer even wore a costume with seven skulls!
They also did a "Ganga aarti" ceremony.
This year, they expected a lot more people than usual, around 12,000 guests.
It was the 13th time they held this celebration, and it ended with dinner.
The Deepavali Mahotsav 2025 at Central Park was inspired by the ghats of Benaras.
A 24-ft Mahalaxmi idol was the centerpiece, with an artificial Ganga river replica and floating lamps.
The event included cultural performances by the Evergreen Dance Entertainment troupe, Ganga aarti, and fireworks.
Organizers expected a record footfall of close to 12,000 visitors, significantly higher than the usual 7-8,000.
Dancers performed as various deities, including Chamunda, with elaborate costumes and makeup.
