Uttar Pradesh Congress Weighs Three Organisational Changes Ahead
The Congress party is discussing how to improve its organisation in Uttar Pradesh.
The state will hold Assembly elections in 2027.
Party leaders have suggested three main ways to reorganise the party.
One idea is to appoint a new state president.
Another is to keep Ajay Rai and add four working presidents.
A third idea is to appoint six provincial presidents.
Some leaders think changing the president now could leave too little time before the election.
Other suggestions include asking Congress Rajya Sabha MPs from Uttar Pradesh to contest Assembly seats.
The party also wants to settle internal disagreements and appear united.
Congress leaders are considering an organisational overhaul in Uttar Pradesh before the 2027 Assembly elections.
One proposal would replace state president Ajay Rai with a new leader.
If Rai remains, the party could appoint four working presidents representing major social groups.
Another option is to appoint six provincial presidents to strengthen the organisation statewide.
Possible state-president contenders include Aradhana Mishra, Kunwar Danish Ali and Imran Masood.
