OpenAI Launches ChatGPT for Teens With Stronger Safety Controls

OpenAI made a special version of ChatGPT for teenagers aged 13 to 17.

It is designed to be safer and more useful for learning.

Parents can connect their accounts to manage some settings and receive alerts about certain serious risks.

The service can also suggest quiet hours and remind teens to take breaks.

It tries to limit unsafe conversations about topics such as self-harm, violence, and eating disorders.

OpenAI says it looks at clues such as when someone uses ChatGPT, how they write, and pictures they share to estimate their age.

If it is unsure, it puts the user into the safer under-18 experience.

OpenAI says parents still need to talk with teenagers because technology cannot replace adult guidance.
