The state recorded about 17% less rainfall than normal during the monsoon, with 18 districts reporting severe rainfall deficiency.
Rain fell on 61 of the 121 days from June through September 30; Jogulamba Gadwal had the largest reported deficit, at 40%.
Officials were told to compile data using 12 standard parameters and complete a comprehensive drought report by the end of October.
The government plans to consider relief measures and consult farmers’ groups and experts; Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was expected to seek central assistance.
