Tamil Nadu Orders Distillery Quality Checks After Enrica Controversy

Tamil Nadu Orders Distillery Quality Checks After Enrica Controversy

Tamil Nadu sells liquor through a government agency called TASMAC.

The government ordered every distillery to check its products carefully.

The order followed a dispute involving 11 liquor products made by Enrica Enterprises.

TASMAC banned those products on August 13.

The Prohibition and Excise office recommended allowing them back for sale the next day.

This quick change made some consumers and employees worried.

TASMAC says samples are tested in a laboratory in Guindy before bottles are sold.

It also sometimes tests bottles taken from shops.

Experts and consumer groups say checking only the alcohol percentage may not find every safety problem.
