Netflix Defends Bollywood Series Against Wankhede's Defamation Suit
Sameer Wankhede, an IRS officer, has sued Netflix and Red Chillies Entertainment for defamation over his portrayal in the series 'The Ba***ds of Bollywood,' directed by Aryan Khan.
Wankhede claims the series unfairly defames him, especially regarding allegations of extortion and his involvement in the Aryan Khan drug case.
Netflix and Red Chillies argue that the portrayal is part of satire and dark humor, and that the legal bar for proving defamation is high.
The court has asked for more details and will hear the case on December 2.
Wankhede is seeking ₹2 crore in damages, which he plans to donate to the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital.
The series touches upon various controversies in the Bollywood industry, such as nepotism, paparazzi culture, adultery, and struggles faced by newcomers with undertones of satirical elements and parody.
