Indore Water Contamination Death Toll Rises
In Indore, India, many people got very sick and some died after drinking dirty water.
The water comes from the Narmada River and is brought to homes through pipes.
People say the water smelled and tasted bad, and some think it made them very sick.
Doctors think the water might have too much cleaning chemicals or got dirty from nearby work.
The government is checking the water and making sure everyone gets good medical care.
Some people say many died, but the government hasn't said if that's true yet.
The government is also investigating how the water got dirty and is taking steps to fix the problem.
They found a leak in the main water pipe and are repairing it.
The government will also give money to the families of those who died.
The High Court has ordered the government to provide free medical treatment to all affected patients.
Over 1,100 people fell ill with vomiting, diarrhoea, and abdominal pain in Indore's Bhagirathpura area due to suspected water contamination.
At least nine deaths have been confirmed, with reports of more, including an 80-year-old man and several women.
Water samples from the Narmada River supply have been collected for testing, and supply lines are being flushed and disinfected.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav directed the administration to ensure prompt and quality treatment for all affected patients and to investigate the source of contamination.
Residents reported that the water had an unusual smell and bitter taste, possibly due to drainage water entering the drinking water pipeline.
