Hindutva Influencer Recasts Jantar Mantar Assault Claim as Self-Defence

Swatantra Bhardwaj was accused of hurting a man during a protest at Jantar Mantar.

A video appeared to show him bragging that he had cracked the man’s skull.

Bhardwaj now says he was defending himself because many people had surrounded him.

He also says the video was fake or that his words were meant as sarcasm.

Delhi Police says the injured man had a simple head injury caused by a metal bracelet called a kada.

Police say they registered a case and questioned the people involved.

Supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party protested outside a police station and demanded tougher action.

The injured man’s daughter said she was worried about her family’s safety.
