Punjab & Haryana HC Grants Bail to UAPA Accused After 5 Years in Custody
A man named Jagwinder Singh was accused of a serious crime under a special law called UAPA.
He watched a video and was accused of encouraging his cousin to support a separate state called Khalistan and helped raise its flag at a government office.
He was put in jail and has been there for over five years.
The police, with help from a special agency, investigated.
The High Court looked at the case and said there wasn't much evidence to prove Jagwinder Singh did anything wrong.
They also noted he'd been in jail for a very long time, and the court case wasn't ending anytime soon.
Because of this, the judges decided to let him out of jail on bail.
Punjab & Haryana High Court granted bail to Jagwinder Singh, accused under UAPA.
The accused had been in custody for over five years.
The High Court noted no incriminating material was found against the accused by the NIA.
Allegations included watching a video, indoctrinating a cousin, and aiding the hoisting of a Khalistan flag.
The court observed a lack of evidence, no recovery except a mobile phone, and the trial was nowhere in sight.
