India’s 25-Year Flood Toll: 36,103 Deaths and $76.95 Billion

Floods have affected many parts of India over the past 26 years.

From 2000 to 2025, they killed more than 36,000 people.

About 36.5 crore people were affected in that period.

Floods also caused reported economic damage of $76.95 billion.

Bihar is currently facing severe flooding, with several rivers above danger levels.

Uttar Pradesh has also reported flooding, evacuations and relief shelters.

Heavy rain has caused waterlogging in Delhi and Gurgaon.

India now has more river-monitoring stations than it did in 2000.

These stations help officials warn people and organize evacuations.
