Honduras' Asfura to take office after tight election
Nasry Asfura, a conservative politician, is becoming the new president of Honduras after a very close election.
He won by just 26,000 votes over his opponent, Salvador Nasralla.
The election was messy, with some people saying it wasn't fair and others saying the U.S. interfered.
Asfura promises to make Honduras better by fighting poverty, corruption, and crime, and by bringing in more jobs.
He also wants to fix the country's health system, which has big problems.
The U.S. wants to start talks about a trade deal with Honduras.
Asfura will have to work with other political parties to get things done, even those who said the election wasn't fair.
The last president, Xiomara Castro, did some good things like reducing poverty and crime, but there are still many problems in Honduras.
Nasry Asfura will be sworn in as President of Honduras after a tightly contested election with allegations of fraud.
Asfura won by a narrow margin of 26,000 votes over centrist candidate Salvador Nasralla.
He pledges to fight poverty, corruption, and crime, and to revive Honduras' economy, one of the poorest in the Western Hemisphere.
Asfura plans to restore diplomatic relations with Taiwan, which were cut by outgoing President Xiomara Castro in 2023.
The U.S. aims to begin negotiations on a bilateral trade agreement with Honduras as soon as possible.
