Maharashtra Declares Gadchiroli, Gondia Areas Naxal-Infested
The Maharashtra government said that Gadchiroli district and some areas in Gondia are still dealing with Naxal (Maoist) activity.
This is a bit confusing because the Chief Minister had said that things were getting better and that the Naxal influence was going away.
The government's announcement is based on a list from the Central government about areas affected by Naxal activity.
The Chief Minister had said in January that Gadchiroli police had almost stopped Naxal activities, and that they would soon be gone from the southern part of the district.
Now, the government has said the opposite.
Maharashtra government declares Gadchiroli and four Gondia talukas as Naxal-infested.
This declaration contradicts the Chief Minister's earlier statement about reducing Maoist activities in Gadchiroli.
The government's decision is based on the Central government's list of Naxal-affected areas.
Chief Minister Fadnavis had stated in January that Gadchiroli was becoming free of Naxal influence.
