Assam CM Says Ambulance Halt Did Not Cause Patient's Death

An ambulance carrying Rasuraj Chakraborty was stopped briefly so the chief minister's convoy could pass.

This happened while Chakraborty was being taken to a hospital.

He died on Thursday morning.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the death was caused by a critical liver illness, not the short stop.

Sarma apologized to the patient and his family after the incident.

Four police personnel were suspended over alleged negligence.

Sarma said ambulances and other emergency services should never be stopped for a convoy.

He also said ordinary people should not face problems because of official travel.
