AIADMK Condemns House Arrest of Teacher Leaders
Some teacher leaders in Tamil Nadu, India, have been protesting for 17 days.
They want the government to give them the same pay as other teachers.
The government put 8 of these leaders under house arrest and took away their phones.
A political leader named Edappadi K Palaniswami said this is not right and asked the government to let the teachers go.
The teachers say the pay difference started at Rs 3,170 and has grown to Rs 9,000 over time.
Secondary grade Seniority Teachers Association (SSTA) leaders have been on protest for 17 days demanding equal pay for equal work.
The Tamil Nadu government allegedly placed 8 SSTA leaders under house arrest and denied them access to their mobile phones.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami condemned the house arrest and demanded the immediate release of the arrested leaders.
The protest aims to address pay anomalies between teachers appointed before and after June 1, 2009, with the pay difference increasing from Rs 3,170 to Rs 9,000.
Palaniswami accused the government of mishandling the protest and warned of accountability if any harm befell the arrested teachers.
