Teachers Protest Low Pay for Panchayat Poll Work
Teachers in Telangana are upset because they think the money they are paid for helping with village elections is too low.
They had to work for 10 days, but some got only Rs 2,000, while others got Rs 3,500.
The teachers' group says this is not fair and makes them feel disrespected.
They want the government to pay them more, following the rules set by the election commission.
Some teachers even refused to take the money or didn't get paid at all.
The teachers' group is asking for fair pay for the remaining election phases.
Teachers in Telangana protest against low remuneration for panchayat poll work, ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,500 for 10 days of duty.
The Telangana United Teachers Federation calls the payment 'humiliating' and an 'insult' to teachers and officials.
Stage 1 returning officers were paid Rs 3,500, while stage 2 returning officers received Rs 2,000, creating a wide disparity.
The federation claims the panchayat raj department's payment memo contradicts the Telangana State Election Commission's directions.
Teachers in some gram panchayats refused the remuneration, and in certain districts, even the reduced amounts were not paid.
