Trump's Secret Turkey Plane Swap Sparks Anger Among Journalists
President Donald Trump went on a trip to a NATO meeting in Turkey.
The people who keep him safe learned there might be a dangerous attack on his big plane, Air Force One.
So they secretly moved the president to a different, smaller plane while the big plane was parked.
The news reporters who travel with the president stayed on Air Force One.
Nobody told the reporters that the president had switched planes, and they were upset when they found out.
They said their job is to report the news, not to help protect the president.
The White House said protecting the president from America's enemies is the most important thing.
Some senators in Congress asked for leaders to be told about the threat and the safety steps.
The president joked that if danger comes for him, it comes for the reporters too.
Reporters also wanted to know why they were kept in the dark about the danger they were in.
US President Donald Trump was covertly moved off Air Force One in Ankara, Turkey, on July 8 amid an apparent Iranian assassination threat, per The Washington Post and The New York Times.
About a dozen traveling journalists, aides and other personnel stayed aboard Air Force One and were not told the president had been transferred via a catering truck to a smaller Air Force C-32A.
The Wall Street Journal reported Israel had warned the US of a possible shoulder-fired missile attack on Air Force One; Secretary of State Marco Rubio and senior officials remained aboard.
Angry reporters told The Washington Post they accept risk covering the president 'but not on behalf of the president,' and the White House Correspondents' Association met officials seeking assurances.
Trump defended the move as Secret Service advice, democrats like Chuck Schumer demanded a congressional briefing, and the White House said it uses 'every tool at our disposal' against threats.

Use of journalists as unwitting decoys
Press and lawmakers: Protect reporters and the record
Reporters were kept in the dark and may have unknowingly served as decoys. As one reporter told The Washington Post, 'Reporters take risks as part of the job, but not on behalf of the president,' and HuffPost's SV Dáte called everyone aboard 'expendable.'
White House and security advocates: Protect the president
The White House says many 'enemies of America' have their sights on the president and it uses 'every tool at our disposal' to address threats; former Secret Service agent Donald Mihalek said decoys are a valid protective counter-measure since the agency's No. 1 job is keeping the president safe.
Secrecy vs. informed consent about danger
Press and lawmakers: Protect reporters and the record
Passengers on a plane judged too dangerous for the president should have been told about the credible threat so they could make informed decisions; the Committee to Protect Journalists said transparency should be the norm, especially when safety is at stake.
White House and security advocates: Protect the president
Operational security required secrecy, since telling everyone would have jeopardized the president's safety; former Bush spokesman Ari Fleischer said if there is a credible threat, the job is to protect the president.
Accuracy of the historical record
Press and lawmakers: Protect reporters and the record
Press pool reports wrongly stated Trump was aboard Air Force One for nearly a month; WHCA president Jacqui Heinrich warned that weakening confidence in pool reports fuels misinformation and conspiracy theories.
White House and security advocates: Protect the president
Deception in presidential travel has precedent (Bill Clinton's 2000 decoy, Joe Biden's secret 2023 Ukraine visit), and protecting the president justifies extraordinary measures; CNN commentator Scott Jennings said he was 'glad' deception was used to keep Trump safe.
