High Court upholds teacher's jail term for assaulting minor student

A judge in a court in New Delhi made an important decision about a school teacher.

The teacher taught drawing and was found to have hurt a young girl student who was 12 years old.

This happened at school, more than once.

The judge decided the teacher must go to jail for five years and pay a small fine.

The judge said a teacher has a very special, trusted job, and hurting a child is a very serious thing.

The court also said the school principal did something wrong too, because the principal told the girl not to tell her parents about what happened.

The judge said children should never be made to feel they did something wrong by speaking up.

Schools should teach children about their rights and encourage them to talk about anything that makes them scared or uncomfortable.

This decision shows that adults must always keep children safe.
