Mizoram and Goa Declare 'Fully Literate' Status Under ULLAS
Mizoram and Goa recently declared themselves as 'fully literate' states under the ULLAS program, which helps adults learn to read and write.
This program, launched by the government, aims to teach basic skills to people over 15 who didn't go to school.
Learners take a test to show they have learned the basics.
The goal is to have everyone in the country be able to read, write and understand simple math by 2030.
Different surveys show slightly different literacy rates, but both states have made significant progress in improving literacy among their populations.
Mizoram and Goa declared 'fully literate' under the ULLAS program, following Ladakh.
ULLAS aims to equip 5 crore non-literate individuals over 15 with basic literacy and numeracy skills.
States use door-to-door surveys, volunteers, and mobile apps to implement ULLAS.
Learners take the Functional Literacy Numeracy Assessment Test (FLNAT) to be certified.
Official data from 2024 showed varying pass rates among states.
