Courts Acquit Accused in Dowry and Murder Cases

Two different courts in India have recently acquitted several accused in two separate cases due to lack of evidence.

In the first case, a Kanpur court acquitted three people in a 19-year-old dowry death case.

The court said the prosecution did not prove the charges because three important witnesses did not support the case during cross-examination.

The victim, Manju, was admitted to a hospital with burns in 2006 and died after alleging her in-laws had beaten her and set her on fire.

The court also ordered legal action against these witnesses for giving false testimony.

In the second case, a Mumbai sessions court acquitted three men in a 2011 murder case involving the death of a jeweller.

The court gave the accused the benefit of doubt as the prosecution failed to prove their involvement beyond reasonable doubt.

The victim, Pankaj Soni, was found bleeding in his showroom after a group of robbers attacked him.
