Adani's Mundra Port Achieves Major Milestone
Adani's Mundra Port in India has achieved a big milestone by successfully docking a very large oil tanker called a VLCC for the first time.
This tanker, named Mt New Renown, can carry a lot of oil, about 3.3 lakh cubic meters.
The port is connected to a refinery in Rajasthan by a long pipeline, which helps bring oil directly to the refinery.
This makes it easier and safer to handle large amounts of oil.
Mundra Port is now one of the few ports in the world that can do this, making India more important in the global oil and shipping industries.
The port can handle many types of cargo and has set a record for handling over 200 million metric tonnes of cargo in a single year.
Adani's Mundra Port successfully berthed India's first fully laden Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), the Mt New Renown, with a cargo capacity of 3.3 lakh m3.
The port's VLCC jetty is connected via a 489 km pipeline to the HPCL Rajasthan Refinery at Barmer, enhancing India's energy security and supply chain resilience.
Mundra Port's advanced capabilities eliminate the need for traditional offshore operations, making crude handling safer, faster, and more cost-efficient.
The port features 27 operational berths and two Single Point Moorings (SPMs), capable of handling various types of cargo, including crude oil and large vessels.
Mundra Port became the first in India to handle over 200 million metric tonnes of cargo in a single year in 2024-25, reinforcing its operational leadership.
