CJI Surya Kant urges lawyers to engage in justice system administration
The Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant, recently spoke to a group of lawyers in Delhi.
He told them that lawyers should do more than just complain about problems.
He wants them to help make the justice system better by giving ideas and working together.
The lawyers also talked about some issues, like not having enough judges and buildings that need fixing.
The Chief Justice said these problems will be taken care of soon.
He praised the lawyers for their good work in helping with arbitration and mediation, which are ways to solve disputes without going to court.
CJI Surya Kant urged lawyers to engage in the administration of the justice system and move beyond articulating grievances.
DHCBA president N Hariharan raised concerns about inadequate physical infrastructure and the low elevation of lawyers to judges.
There are 44 judges in the Delhi High Court against a sanctioned strength of 60, resulting in a 27% vacancy.
Only three lawyers have been elevated as judges since August 2024 out of 47,000 advocates.
CJI Kant praised the DHCBA for its collaborative ethos and contributions to arbitration and mediation.
