Five Firms Seek Support Under ₹37,500 Crore Coal Scheme
The government wants companies to turn coal and lignite into useful products.
It created a scheme offering support worth ₹37,500 crore.
Five companies have submitted seven applications.
Adani Enterprises submitted three proposals for making urea.
Other proposals involve urea, syngas, direct reduced iron and synthetic natural gas.
The government hopes the plan will attract large investments and create jobs.
It also wants to reduce imports of products such as urea, ammonia, methanol and LNG.
Officials will review the applications, and companies can submit more proposals during future application windows.
Seven applications from five companies were submitted under the coal gasification scheme.
Adani Enterprises filed three applications for urea production, while Talcher Fertilisers proposed another urea project.
Gallantt Ispat proposed producing direct reduced iron and syngas; NTPC applied for synthetic natural gas.
The scheme aims to support ₹2.53 trillion in investments and create about 50,000 jobs.
The proposals will be evaluated, while a second application window opened on September 8.
